Upcoming CRS and CRS supported events include:

  • CRS will be holding a Dinner at the Noble Palace Restaurant on Tuesday 16 March. See below for a report on last year's event - it was terrific. Let us know by email if you want to come - perhaps with some friends. Please click here for more details, including RSVP.

  • A Scholarship presentation ceremony is planned in the week leading up to World Refugee Day which is on 20 June.

  • EXPRESS YOUR REALITY ART AND WRITING COMPETITION

The Express Your Reality competition (click here for brochure or poster) is part of a broader Oxfam program called Refugee Realities. Refugee Realities is a simulation aimed to create a better understanding of the experience of being a refugee. The Express Your Reality competition is providing current and former refugees with an opportunity to express themselves to a diverse and engaged audience. All entries (click here for Entry Form and Competition Guidelines) will potentially be exhibited during the Refugee Realities simulation in Canberra in 2010. Entries may also be published in Culturalista magazine.

For more information see www.oxfam.org.au/refugee and www.culturalista.org.au

  • Presentation of Scholarships to Refugees took place on Monday 15 June 2009.
The presentation of scholarships is an activity contributing to recognition of the United Nations World Refugee Day. See more information at http://www.unrefugees.org.au/about-us/come-to-our-events.html

United Nations Refugee Day was recognized on Saturday 20 June 2009 with activities being conducted in the week leading up to that day.  As part of the activities to recognize Refugee Day, Canberra Refugee Support is holding a function to celebrate refugees and to award a number of scholarships.  The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Regional Representative, Mr. Richard Towle, attended.  A total of 15 scholarships were donated from the following Canberra organizations or individuals:

    ACT Government
    Athol Morris and Sara Lynch
Canberra staff from the Department of Immigration and Citizenship Social Club
    Canberra Refugee Support
    St John the Apostle, Kippax
    Calvary Hospital

    South Woden Uniting Church
    ACTEWAGL

  • The CRS Dinner held at the Noble Palace Restaurant exceeded expectations.  Numbers were double those of last year and the funds raised from the activities on the night will be allotted largely towards funding scholarships to the awarded on 15 June as part of World Refugee Day celebrations.  CRS thanks all who attended, and gives a special thanks to Noble Palace, who have again this year provided wonderful support - in addition to a great meal and terrific service.
