  • CRS Scholarship Program 2011

This year on World Refugee Day, 20 June Canberra Refugee Support presented 22 scholarships to Asylum Seekers or Refugees. A further scholarship was presented on Friday 24 June.

The scholarships were awarded to Asylum Seekers or Refugees who are studying or seeking to study. They were selected on the basis of meritorious performance rather than academic results alone.

During the presentation of the scholarships a short acknowledgement of each sponsor and a citation for the recipient were read out. These are at the summarised at this link.

The President of CRS, Geoff McPherson, introduced proceedings, followed by an address by MR Richard Towle the Regional representative of the UNHCR and then the Keynote Address b the Minister for Immigration and Citizenship – The Honourable Chris Bowen, MP.

The scholarships were presented by The Minister and Mr Towle. Other distinguished guests included Dr Andrew Leigh MP – Member for Fraser, Joy Burch, Amanda Bresnan and Meredith Hunter from the ACT Legislative Assembly, Ray Dennis CEO Calvary Health Care ACT and of course the Sponsors

The presentation was wrapped up by a vote of thanks delivered by Ms Serawit Yimam Woldegiorgis , who received a scholarship last year.

Canberra Refugee Support congratulates all the scholarship winners, and thanks the generosity of all the sponsors.
